What Clothing to Wear for Your First Game

If you’re about to play your first game of paintball, you may be nervous and have some questions.  It is important to consider what you’re going to wear when going out to play paintball.

Before we get into the recommendations and tips for what to wear for paintball if you can use older clothes.  Paint can be kind of hard on some clothes, and there is a chance that while moving around and being shot your shirt could rip or have a hole.

Does it Hurt?

This is a big worry for many new players going to their field for their first paintball experience.  Paintballs can hurt and sting a little bit, as well as leave welts depending on where you are hit. However, your adrenaline will be flowing and it won’t feel as bad as if you were calm and not expecting it.  Additionally, by using these tips to dress appropriately, your paintball experience should be relatively pain free.

Dress in Layers

Dressing in layers is the key to minimizing the paintball’s impact on your body.  Similar to keeping your body warm in the cold, layers create space in between the outer layer and your skin with the material in between.  Remember to dress appropriately for the weather as you don’t want to wear layers of heavy clothing in extreme heat.

Clothing Recommendations

Here are some recommendations of what clothing to wear for paintball:

  1. The solid pair of shoes that can get dirty (no sandals or open toes!)
  2. Pair of old jeans or sweatpants (preferably baggier jeans)
  3. T-shirt base layer
  4. Another t-shirt or long sleeve
  5. Hoodie, sweatshirt or long sleeve shirt depending on the weather
  6. Bennie or winter hat (or sweatshirt hood)

If it is not extremely hot:

  1. You can wear gym shorts under sweatpants
  2. You can wear a long sleeve shirt under a sweatshirt and use one t-shirt

Remember it doesn’t hurt to bring more layers with you to the field.  You can easily take them off in between games if it does get too hot. However, if you are cold or you’re not wearing much, you’ll be glad you have them
